Dr. Morris is a tech-savvy Independent Director and Strategic Advisor for both public and private companies as well as a former Chairman & CEO. Dr. Morris has over 30 years of operating & oversight experience within large and small cap companies and is nationally recognized for his leadership in successful commercialization of high-tech medical devices. Dr. Morris has a successful track record of leading turnarounds, building high performing teams and growing value in highly regulated global markets.
Dr. Morris is the Founder and Principal of MEHL BioMedical, LLC where he provides Board and Senior Executive level strategic advising services including diligence support and participation in the acquisition of lower/middle market MedTech companies. Prior to MEHL, Dr. Morris led the restart and turnaround of Vivonda Medical, Inc (now Neuspera Medical, Inc.) as its Chairman and CEO. During his 7-year tenure, Neuspera was well capitalized, experienced significant growth in valuation, achieved significant regulatory approvals toward commercialization of its ultra-miniaturized neuromodulation system for use in Peripheral Pain and Urge Urinary Incontinence. As a named executive officer at Cyberonics (now LivaNova), Dr. Morris led the creation of an R&D organization and product pipeline in support of a successful turnaround. His R&D team delivered multiple first of their kind products in the core Epilepsy business, plus an expansion into the adjacent Heart Failure market. In his last role with Boston Scientific, Dr. Morris was the Arrhythmia Franchise Owner with strategic oversight of the global pacemaker and implantable defibrillator business. Prior to joining, Boston Scientific (legacy Guidant), Dr. Morris spent 5 years working as a Research Assistant in the Medical Computing Laboratory at the University of Michigan in collaboration with the electrophysiology group at the Michigan Heart and Vascular Institute. During this period, Dr. Morris received a fellowship from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in support of his research on the development of novel approaches to low power arrhythmia classification algorithms designed for implantable defibrillators. Dr. Morris is a Fellow in the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) where he was inducted for contributions to developing and commercializing innovations in bioelectronic medicine. Dr. Morris is named as an inventor on over 30 patents and an author on peer reviewed publications and book chapters,
Dr. Morris serves on the boards of Nordson (NASDAQ: NDSN), Embecta (NASDAQ: EMBC) and Myomo (NYSE: MYO) where he Chairs the Technology, Quality and Regulatory Committee. His committee assignments span Nom/Gov, Compensation, Audit and Technology. Lastly, Dr. Morris volunteers as a Trustee of Northwestern University where he Chairs the Northwestern Medicine Committee.
Dr. Morris holds an M.B.A. (Northwestern - Kellogg), a Ph.D. & M.S. in Electrical Engineering (University of Michigan) and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering (Northwestern).
